Privacy Policy — Continue reading

Effective: October 17, 2026

Continue reading (“Continue”, “the app”) is an e-book reader developed by Mohammad Movahedi. This policy explains what information the app handles and where it goes.

In short: the app does not collect any personal information. There are no accounts with us, no analytics of our own, no advertising and no tracking (the only diagnostics are Google’s, from the QR scanner on Android; see Camera). Your books and reading data stay on your device and on the servers you choose to connect to.

Information stored on your device

The app stores the following on your device, only so it can work:

  • Your reading progress, bookmarks, highlights, notes and drawings
  • Reading statistics (reading time, sessions, streaks and goals)
  • Your settings, and the nickname and profile photo you choose (if any)
  • Downloaded books and covers, for reading offline
  • The login details for your Calibre server and your Zotero API key. These are kept in your operating system’s secure storage (for example Windows Credential Manager, the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore).

This information is not sent to us. It is removed when you uninstall the app.

Services you connect to

The app only connects to services that you set up yourself:

  • Your Calibre content server. If you enter a Calibre server, the app downloads your books from it and sends your reading data back to it: progress, ratings, dates, reading time, highlights and notes, and your reading position. The server belongs to you (or to whoever runs it), and we have no access to it.
  • Zotero. If you add a Zotero API key, the app connects to Zotero (api.zotero.org) to read your library, download attachments and sync annotations and your last page read. If you use your own WebDAV storage for Zotero files, the app connects to that server. Zotero’s own privacy policy applies to data held by Zotero: https://www.zotero.org/support/privacy
  • The natural voice download. If you choose to download the optional natural voice, the app downloads the voice files from Hugging Face (huggingface.co). No personal data is sent; Hugging Face can see the usual details of any download, such as your IP address. After the download, the voice runs entirely on your device.

Read aloud

Read aloud uses either the voices built into your operating system or the optional natural voice, which runs on your device. When you use a system voice, the text is handled by your operating system’s speech service, under your device maker’s terms.

Camera

On phones and tablets, the app can use the camera to scan a setup QR code from another of your devices. The camera is only used while the scanner is open. Images are not saved or sent anywhere.

On Android, the scanner uses Google’s ML Kit, which reads the code on your device. ML Kit sends Google basic diagnostics: device model and OS version, the app’s name and version, performance and error information, and a random per-installation identifier. Google uses these for diagnostics and analytics of ML Kit itself; the data is encrypted in transit, isn’t used to identify you, and is never sent to us. See https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/android-data-disclosure

Setup codes

The app can show a QR code that contains your Calibre server address, username and password, and your Zotero API key, so you can set up another device quickly. The code is shown only on your screen, it is not sent anywhere, and it closes after two minutes. Only show it to devices you trust.

Home screen widgets, CarPlay and the lock screen

Widgets, CarPlay and lock-screen controls show the book you are reading and your daily progress. This information stays on your device.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at the same address with a new effective date.
